Casita Puppy Supply List
Below are items that I recommend having on hand for when your puppy comes home! Please click each photo to be directed to the website for ordering information. Chewy.com will be your go to for most of these!
We feed our puppies and adults Pro Plan Sport 30/20 and highly recommend it to our puppy families.
We love Sure Grow 100! Especially when they start teething. The extra calcium and vitamins is so good for them during their growth spurts.
Crate training until your puppy is fully house trained will be your best friend! I prefer wire crates that have a divider so you can adjust it as they grow.
Potty pads are great for house training! I use them in the xpen if I'm not able to watch the puppy 100%. Accidents happen especially at the 8-12 week age as they aren't able to hold it as long as adult dogs can. Positive reinforcement and a consistent routine are best for potty training.
An Xpen is a great way to keep your puppy in one area vs running around the whole house. I like them to be 4’-5’ tall. They are great for potty training!
Kongs are great to keep their minds busy! There are a TON of yummy *recipes* online.
For toys I prefer the ones that don’t have any stuffing. Most of the time they’ll have them shredded within minutes and stuffing is everywhere. Toys that crinkle are a huge bonus! They love the squeaky crinkly ones! And a toy as simple as a tennis ball is always a crowd favorite!
I highly recommend frozen raw beef bones. They’re great for keeping them entertained and help relieve some of the teething pain. Raw beef bones are a fantastic way to keep their teeth clean. Northwest Naturals is a great local company that sells frozen beef bones and other raw foods.
These freeze dried raw nuggets are FANTASTIC training treats! They come in many flavors and most of the time they don’t upset their stomachs like some other treats do.
Grooming your Miniature American Shepherd is very important! They are a double coated breed and need brushing once a week or so. Bathing once a month is fine and I would make sure to dremel or trim nails once a week. Long nails can cause joint issues and are very uncomfortable for them. Creating good nail trimming habits while they're puppies will definitely make it easier when they're adults. You can also pick up a pair of thinning shears to trim the hair behind their ears to help prevent knots.
